The West Coast Canada Institute for ISTDP
presents
1-Day Audio-visual Clinical Case Presentation and Seminar
with
Dr. Josette ten have-de Labije, Psy D. (Berlin, Germany)
"The Woman Who Fell Into the Void"
Fees: $125 (GST included)
This full-day presentation and seminar will demonstrate how ISTDP (Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy) method was used to work with a highly traumatized patient with concomitant high superego pathology and low ego-adaptive capacity and the subsequent steps to:
- building a strong therapeutic alliance
- facilitating, with the patient's, the de-identification with her harsh and devaluing superego
- strengthening the patient's ego-adaptive capacity (affect regulation)
- uncovering painful feelings and working them through
Video-vignettes from parts of the initial interview and subsequent sessions will demonstrate the patient's and therapist's common undertaking to conquer the patient's punitive superego and to restructure her ego-adaptive capacity in order to work through the patient's many repressed painful feelings concerning the shocking traumatic event and the resultant agony of deep loss.
Dr. ten Have-de Labije's resolute strength and tenderness as a therapist and her ability to masterfully apply the process of ISTDP has made her a highly-regarded and sought-after teacher, supervisor and lecturer in Europe and the USA. In this presentation, she shows not only the powerful effect ISTDP method has on de-repressing painful memories and traumatic experiences, but the degree to which our patients can be liberated from emotional suffering.
In this presentation and seminar, Dr. ten Have-de Labije demonstrates how the psychotherapy method of ISTDP can be used with patients on the left side of the spectrum of psychoneurosis (Axis 1 – no character disorders).
Formerly from the Netherlands, Dr ten Have-de Labije is a a registered psychologist-psychotherapist and clinical psychologist, in private practice since 1990. Trained and supervised by Professor Dr Habib Davanloo (Montreal), originator of ISTDP, she has taught several post-doctorate courses and workshops on ISTDP in Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, the USA and, now, for the first time, Canada.
She is a visiting faculty member of both the Washington School of Psychiatry and the Southern California Society for ISTDP.
The West Coast Canada Institute for ISTDP is excited to have Dr. ten Have-de Labije as our inaugural presenter.
