My name is Reema, and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor with a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. I work with individuals who are suffering from trauma as well as couples and families experiencing distress, conflict, and communication challenges. My approach is flexible, integrative, and holistic with a developmentally sensitive, neurobiology-informed lens, strongly influenced by the impact of stress and trauma on brain development, which integrates core principles of neurodevelopment and traumatology. This approach allows me to gain insight into a client’s unique developmental experiences, motivations, perspectives, thought and behaviour patterns, and trauma responses to offer a personalized healing experience. My approach integrates trauma-informed and culturally responsive care as I work with marginalized populations and vulnerable groups.
I truly believe that each individual is the expert on their life and holds the potential to heal through their inner strength and wisdom to improve the quality of their life. I provide compassionate support and guidance for clients with mental health concerns, focusing on fostering a warm and safe space free of judgement where individuals can feel supported and empowered to explore their challenges and experiences to achieve personal growth. My approach emphasizes that with validation, compassion, and trust in the therapeutic relationship, I can help individuals heal from past trauma and support them in navigating through emotional complexities that stem from their trauma experiences.
I strongly emphasize collaboration with my clients to understand their narratives, and explore their experiences through guided discovery. I support my clients in exploring deep emotions, thoughts, behaviours, and experiences that may be difficult to explore on their own. I help them unravel their story so that they can openly talk about their concerns and gain clarity on how their situation has impacted them and how they can bring about change when they are ready. My approach allows me to tailor therapy to the client’s needs and assess and address their concerns more effectively.
The work I have done has been heavily focused on trauma, working with youth who have childhood trauma, individuals with PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, and relational trauma, and women who are victims of gender-based violence. I provide counselling for concerns that include self-esteem issues, concurrent disorders, grief and loss, bicultural identity crises, family problems, and life transitions. I have worked with families that are experiencing inter-generational conflict due to acculturative stress, intercultural tension due to changes in family structure and dynamics, and immigrants experiencing mental health issues due to acculturation. While my practice is based out of Maple Ridge and Abbotsford for in-person appointments, I see clients all over British Columbia through online sessions. I offer counselling in English, Punjabi, Urdu and Hindi, and I am available to book a complimentary 15-minute consultation. Please reach out to book an appointment.
