About Nancy
People say Nancy is friendly, down-to-earth, joyful and practical. You'll benefit from Nancy's 25 years of experience in human services. After earning her MA in Counselling Psychology in 1986, she worked in mental health clinics, schools and universities helping people who had suffered trauma, abuse, depression, workplace bullying, and serious medical conditions. She currently teaches counselling at University of Victoria, School of Child and Youth Care. Her BA is in psychology. She has a certificate in Adult Education and did post-graduate training in Parenting and Family Life Education. She became a registered Reiki Master in 2008.

Nancy has two grown children, and three grandchildren. She stays youthful through continuous learning. She loves finding helpful new information for her clients. Current interests include acupressure, homeopathy, sound healing, meditation, and yoga.

Nancy points out that, while academic learning is valuable, "the 'school of life" helps us find deeper meaning and purpose". She's gained practical wisdom by overcoming her share of challenges, including divorce, depression and diabetes. These experiences strengthened her determination, daring, delight and devotion. They anchor her counselling in real-world perspectives.

Nancy loves singing, and uses music to evoke deep relaxation and healing. She has performed worldwide. On one tour, the Tlingit Wooshkitan Eagle clan of SE Alaska adopted her and gave her the name Kaasay ("Higher Voice").

Social justice is important to Nancy, and she's been active her whole life in promoting gender equality, religious tolerance, economic equity, healing of racial prejudices and environmental sustainability. She is a well-traveled world citizen, with legal citizenship in Canada and the USA.
