Additional Information about this counsellor or psychologist:

Welcome:

As you are reading this profile, you are probably considering counselling. Or, you are making decisions about which counsellor might be right for you. When you feel comfortable with your therapist, it not only helps you feel good about treatment, it also means that you have a better chance of improvement overall. So, I hope you find this information helpful, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, or would simply like to talk to me as you are deciding whether counselling is right for you.

About me:

I am a registered psychologist, with specialized training in clinical and forensic psychology. I completed my BA at Simon Fraser University, and my MA and Ph.D. at Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Presently, I have a private practice, and I also provide assessment services from time to time to the federal government. I am also a clinical supervisor at my alma mater, SFU, where I assist with therapy training of psychology graduate students.

I also provide workshops to the public on topics such as relationships and wellness. Whenever I have something upcoming, it will be posted on the Public Events page of this website.

About my clients:

I've worked with clients who have a wide variety of psychological, health, and life problems. Common concerns are depression, anxiety, and relationship problems. I also have a number of clients who are coping with chronic illness, pain concerns, and issues such as learning disabilities. Most recently, I've been working with individuals on disability leave and assisting them in returning to work. Many of my clients are people who usually function very well, but who are struggling to cope with a specific issue.

In addition, I am an approved treatment provider for the RCMP and Canadian military, and individuals who have coverage through Veteran's Affairs. I am also approved to provide counselling to those covered by the Interim Federal Health Plan, with a referral by a psychiatrist.

My treatment approach:

As a cognitive-behavioural therapist, I take a practical, positive approach in sessions. In the first session, we would discuss the reasons that you have chosen to come for therapy, and start to develop some initial goals. Early on, my focus is on working with you to help you feel better as fast as possible, while also developing some longer-term strategies for feeling better overall.

The length of treatment varies, of course, depending on the concerns you have and your goals for treatment. However, six to ten sessions is typical for many of my clients.

I do try to ensure that we are likely to be a good fit when we speak on the phone prior to booking the first session. If for whatever reason I am not the right therapist for you, I am happy to provide you with referral information.
