Additional Information about this counsellor or psychologist:

Rebecca Christofferson MA RCC BCATR is a registered clinical counselor and registered art therapist. Her training began with an aboriginal program at VIU, and has included a post-graduate art therapy diploma, many parent training courses, master practitioner in NLP, cognitive behavioral therapy, adolescent and attachment therapy, sexual abuse intervention, a Masters degree in education, trauma therapy, mental health interventions, and addictions programs, and EMDR.

She began her career working with youth at risk and families dealing with sexual, physical, and emotional abuse. Then she added addictions, and learning disabilities to her contract work. For over 7 years she provided individual and family therapy to the urban aboriginal people of Surrey. After over 8 years of counseling Rebecca opened her private practice focusing mainly on survivors of abuse, people with mental health challenges, and families struggling with behavioral challenges. She also enjoyed providing therapy under high-risk youth, child and youth mental health, sexual abuse intervention, and family programs funded by the Ministry of Child and Family Development. She has been working in different settings with many different cultures and lifestyles providing therapy to groups, families and individuals for over 12 years.

She helps couples and families strengthen functioning and attachments despite challenges including ADD/ADHD, addictions, learning disabilities, family violence/anger management, developmental delays, behavioral challenges, eating disorders, and divorce. Rebecca has created programs specific to many of these challenges. Rebecca teaches non-violent communication skills while providing attachment and Gottman style therapy in order to empower each member of the families/couples who come to see her. She also helps individuals manage phobias, anxiety and depression using a combination of mindfulness/spiritually based therapy, hypnotherapy and cognitive behavioral skill based therapy. Her NLP and hypnosis background is helpful for addictions, moving successfully towards goals, and anxiety management.

Some of the programs that she can offer are:

  • An 8 session program for families dealing with ADHD/ADD
  • A 4 session premarital couples program
  • A 4 session phobia reduction program
  • A 3 sessions to understand what addictions program is right for you.
  • A 4-8 week co-parenting after divorce program

Ask Rebecca about some of the other programs available, either at her downtown Duncan office, or her Lake Cowichan retreat centre.

“I have had a wonderful career helping people move closer to peace in their lives, may it be a peaceful moment where the kids are sitting down at the dinner table, or a moment of still confidence in your own worth. It became clear to me that counseling is a service that allows change to move from being something daunting and painful to something clear, focused and attainable.”
