Jonathan Wieser is a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Registered Marriage and Family Therapist who sees clients at his office in Surrey and online across British Columbia.
Perhaps you are carrying anxiety, depression, or the weight of past trauma. Maybe stress is wearing you down, your relationships feel strained or distant, or grief or a major life transition has left you unsure of your footing. You may notice yourself reacting in ways you don't want to — withdrawing, shutting down, or snapping at the people you love — and wonder why it keeps happening.
Many of these patterns trace back to experiences we could not control: the family we were born into, the environment we grew up in, the painful or threatening things that happened to us. Exploring your story is not about blame. It is about understanding how those experiences shaped your thoughts, feelings, and reactions, and gaining the insight and acceptance that make change possible.
Through our work together, you can become aware of these patterns and respond differently rather than reacting automatically. Past experiences can leave the nervous system primed for fight, flight, freeze, or fawn responses, so part of our work may involve gently desensitizing those triggers. Clients often experience a calmer nervous system, healthier ways of coping, stronger emotional resilience, and closer, more secure relationships.
I draw on person-centred therapy, attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and couples and family systems models. My toolset includes EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) for processing trauma and neurofeedback, which I have provided since 2007, to help regulate brain activity and support emotional balance. I also integrate mindfulness, cognitive behavioural therapy, and emotionally focused therapy. Sessions are collaborative and non-judgmental. I will not tell you what to do, but I will offer insights and perspectives to consider, and your viewpoint is always respected — even when it differs from mine.
Jonathan is the senior therapist at Sojourn Counselling and Neurofeedback, with more than 15 years of experience and over 12,000 hours of therapy provided. He holds a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and is an Approved Clinical Supervisor.
