For 40 years Gene has offered therapy for children, families, and individual adults in community mental healt centers and in private practice.  With his background as oil field worker, minister, high school English teacher, and five years of graduate study in clinical psychology at the University of Kansas, he brings breadth and depth to the counseling experience.

Gene draws upon a variety of therapeutic methods.  The core of his approach to therapy is  grounded in common sense, sensitivity to the human condition, and compassionate understanding.  In sitting with those who come to see him, it is his intention to be fully present, clear minded, and to bring his full attention to the person(s) in order to understand them and create a dialogue, thereby guiding them through their difficulties to the answers they carry within themselves.

In his work with children he employs the sand tray method.  In a room filled with miniature objects (human figures, animals, trees, rocks, buildings, vehicles, etc.) the child is asked to create a world in the 3' X 5' sand tray, after which the child is asked to tell the story of their creation.  This becomes the vehicle for exploring the child's anxieties, worries, angers, fears, etc.

In his long experience as a psychologist Gene has worked with a broad range of issues and difficulties, and with many types of persons.
