Dr. Eric Ochs was awarded his doctoral degree in clinical psychology from McGill University in 2000. He was trained and worked for a number of years at the Royal Victoria Hospital (Montreal) in the Sex & Couple Therapy Service as well as the Montreal Children’s Hospital working in an ADHD/ADD research clinic. His clinical training was broad-based with a strong emphasis on cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) for the treatment of depression, anxiety, ADHD and other disorders.
Dr. Ochs authored or coauthored about a dozen scientific papers on various topics early in his career. Since coming to Victoria in 2002, Dr. Ochs has taught at UVIC and Royal Roads University, worked in private practice, and consulted to medical clinics in Victoria. He is a registered psychologist in British Columbia since 2004.
Dr. Ochs has worked in mental health for the Vancouver Island Health Authority (VIHA) since 2005. For almost five years he led the outpatient group therapy program at VIHA’s Urgent and Short Term Assessment and Treatment clinic (USTAT). Currently, he is working with inpatients and outpatients at the Eric Martin Pavilion (EMP) and at the Victoria Mental Health Center (VMHC) with a focus on treating Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Dr. Ochs is adjunct professor at the University of Victoria (UVIC) in the department of Psychology and provides training (primarily in CBT for anxiety disorders) for UVIC students in Clinical Psychology and students of the Vancouver Island Medical Program.
Since 2005, Dr. Ochs has also provided CBT psychotherapy for anxiety disorders (focus on Panic Disorder, OCD, and Generalized Anxiety Disorder) in his private practice. In addition he has been very active in consulting for clients of the Victoria Fertility Centre (VFC). In his VFC capacity he helps individuals and couples prepare for making decisions regarding assisted and third party reproduction, provides couple therapy, and helps couples improve their sexual functioning.
Dr. Ochs is a member of the British Columbia Psychological Association (BCPA), the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society (CFAS), and the Canadian Association of Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CACBT).
