When I was 21 years old my marriage ended, I lost my home, I had no money or friends, was severely depressed, lacked self-esteem and external resources.  The reason it disintegrated was so shameful that I couldn't tell anyone, except for the counsellor at the college I was attending.  For the next year I was tormented with why me until I came to the realization that this experience gave me insight and compassion for others suffering.  I became a counsellor because I didn't want people to be alone with their suffering, confusion and shame like I had been.  I knew I needed to train professionally and I have, a Masters Degree in Education (Counselling Psychology).  Ensuring clients have a safe place has always remained at the forefront of my therapeutic work.  I learned about being a client and a therapist when I went for 90 hours of counselling in order to complete my 3-year certification training with the Gestalt Institute.  After completing Level I and II EMDR training in 1998, and becoming certified, I joined a supervision group where I was client, supervisor and therapist.  I had new skills to work more efficiently and affectively with trauma, past and current.  It was Maureen Kitchur's brilliant Strategic Developmental Psychotherapy training that enabled me to create a road map of how I would work more proficiently with clients.

My second husband and I attended Harville Hendrix and Gottmans' couples workshops to enrich our marriage and then I trained with them and began working with couples.  Seven years ago a group of clients were referred to me from a retiring therapist.  They were all struggling with sex addiction.  My learning curve became steep and I am currently training with Partick Carnes to become a certified sexual addictions therapist.  My clientele expanded to include individuals, their partners and couples trying to recover from sexual addiction.

Clients report the tools they use to cope with life are no longer working, and that they feel anxious, stuck, depressed and discouraged.  Their internal critic is brutal and unforgiving.  They do not feel successful or joyful in their lives.  Nor do they feel they have the internal tools to overcome their negative beliefs about themselves or to create a meaningful life.

My 20 years as a experiental, dynamic and intergrative Registered Clinical Counsellor is every expanding.  My skills increase while my intentions remain the same, which is provide a safe environment for clients to learn the skills and abilities to deal with the challenges of life, to feel at peace and resolved about their past and to be able to make healthy choices about how to have a successful and satisfying life.  I use my skills, knowledge, experience and compassion to assist people in creative a life that is right for them.
