Additional Information about this counsellor or psychologist:

Christen has provided clinical counselling to children, parents, adults, couples and families as a professional Social Worker in British Columbia (BC) for over 24 years. She has spent most of her career working in healthcare (perinatal, pediatric and adult) and is interested in helping adolescents through to adults live to their potential.

Her graduate research explored the experiences of couples facing infertility. She is a Registered Social Worker (RSW) (BC) and she is a member of the BC Association of Social Workers. Christen provides clinical field supervision (Community Mental Health) to Masters students in schools of Social Work from Universities across the country.

Much of her work has involved supporting people in times of crisis, change, loss and life transitions. She is particularly interested in working with couples and individuals who are undergoing both traditional and alternative fertility treatments in their quest to create family.

Christen is also interested in supporting new and seasoned families in their everyday lives. She is a skilled mediator of conflict and can facilitate communications between couples and within families.

Christen has also worked to help people cope with depression, anxiety and both acute and chronic health conditions. Christen uses a Bio-Psychosocial spritual assessment framework including referrals for appropriate follow up and treatment where needed.

Christen may use the following therapeutic approaches depending on the issues of concern: Person Centered, Narrative, Feminist and Traditional Family therapies, Systemic Mediation and conflict resolution approaches, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solutions Focused Therapy, and Attachment, Grief and Loss Counselling, and Motivational Interviewing Techniques.
