           EATING DISORDERS THERAPY GROUP
A Group for People Wishing to Recover from Disordered Eating

Do you:
·         Use food to fill an inner emptiness, swallow emotions, or quell anxiety?
·         Use food to comfort unmet needs, or silence feelings?
·         Starve for control?
·         Drive your body without enough fuel?
·         Binge uncontrollably?
·         Purge food, use laxatives or restrict to compensate for eating more than you thought you should?
·         Disconnect from emotions and body?
·         Strive for pride in order to not feel shame?
·         Struggle with identity and self-worth?

The group will be a reflective space to:
·         Explore the function of the eating disorder;
·         Develop attunement to body, mind, & emotions;
·         Develop healthier ways of being with self and others.

Dysfunctional eating is a habit-formed, outward manifestation of underlying conflicts. The goal of the group is to increase awareness of the underlying (unconscious) issues, unlock self-defeating or self-harming adaptations, and strengthen a positive sense of authentic self. Through reflection and mutual support, members will develop an outlook of compassionate curiosity toward self and others and their healing journeys.
The group will meet weekly on Tuesdays from 7:15 to 8:45 pm, and will begin in June 2010. The cost of the group will depend on the size of the group, but will range from $160 (based on eight members) to $200 (based on 6 members) per four weeks.

Ongoing Group

Discovering Yourself Through Children’s Books Bedtime Stories for Grownups

offered by Jaminie Hilton, Registered Clinical Counsellor, BA Creative Writing

People long to share their own stories, and nothing prompts the willingness to share like listening to someone else's story.
This group is for anyone who loves children’s books. If you have journeyed through the joy, sadness, silliness, whimsy, suspense and soothing satisfaction of well-crafted literature, this is your opportunity to delve deeper and to discover what you can learn about yourself when you are moved by a story. After reading a story aloud, I will welcome and encourage the exploration of feelings, memories, dreams and wishes inspired by the story’s characters using a variety of creative prompts, which may include optional drawing.
This is not a writing class, but will be an invaluable experience for any writers present.. It is intended is to provide a safe, nurturing and easy path to increased self-awareness and healing.

I have been a therapist for 20 years. I have facilitated hundreds of groups. I am passionate about the healing potential in children’s literature.

Pre-requisite: Experience as a child, or a child at heart.

Cost:$40 per session, 8 week commitment. Phone or email with questions:

Event Location:
Vancouver, BC
Event Start Date:
10/01/2010
Event Date:
Oct 1-3, 2010; Nov 26-28, 2010; Dec 101-12,2010

IMAGO Vancouver invites you to experience the intimate adventure of a lifetime.

  • learn practical tools for effectively resolving conflict
  • transform daily squabbles into an opportunity for
growth and change
  • revitalize and enrich your most important relationship

This 20 hour Imago workshop, developed by Harville Hendrix (Oprah's favourite therapist), has been offered worldwide to over 100,000 people. It is open to all couples of all sexual orientations, whether you are in a solid relationship, navigating a shaky one or in distress.

The Getting the Love You Want workshop helps couples begin to profoundly understand what brought them together, why they are where they in their relationship and how to begin to chart the course they both want for the future.

The workshop focuses your relationship with your partner. Except for a brief introduction, couples work either alone or with their partner and are not expected to share anything with the larger group unless they choose to do so during feedback times.

Rather than passively absorbing lecture materials, participants will initiate a deeper understanding of their partner and rediscovery of their relationship. At times they write about their needs and frustrations in the relationship and then are given a format which allows them to share that information with their partner in a way that encourages understanding rather than defensiveness and blame. The workshop always builds on a positive and compassionate framework, thus allowing each person in the relationship to truly feel heard and understood.

Event Location:
UBC

This 20 hour Imago workshop, based on the work of Harville Hendrix , helps couples to become conscious of the positive and negative dynamics that drive their relationship. Couples are encouraged to participate to their comfort level but are not required to speak in front of the group.

We welcome all couples in all stages of relationship – newly in love, struggling with endless arguments, wanting to enrich their relationship, thinking about separation, not wanting to repeat the mistakes from previous relationships.
