Interpersonal-Psychodynamic Therapy Group
Date: Ongoing, Tuesdays 6:30-8:00 pm
We all have a need to connect with others in a way that protects us from being hurt. Often people seek therapy because of stress, anxiety, or depression which may have developed or be maintained in interpersonal relationships. The therapists in this group use an interpersonal-psychodynamic approach based on Yalom’s work with the belief that problems in relationships are ideally addressed through therapeutic relationships. They focus on the “here-and-now” of the group session, using interactions between members to facilitate understanding, and encouraging members to try new behaviours in a safe environment.
This ongoing therapy group is ideal for people struggling with the following:
- difficulty saying “no”
- finding that others are often hurt by your honest feedback
- avoidance of conflict
- difficulty establishing or maintaining relationships
- difficulties at work because of relationships with authority figures
- repeating patterns in current relationships that are connected to childhood experiences
